A Memorial Day Camp Out

6/14/2016

And now, a trip of a different sort, a camping trip!  We were invited to camp out at Rob's sister Jenni's farm for Memorial Day weekend.  Their house is the perfect place for a family gathering because there is lots of space to camp out, a fire pit, a lake, and animals to entertain the kiddos.

If you know me, you know I'm not really a nature girl. This is unfortunate for my husband, because he loves to camp and be outdoors. He's been a good sport over the years and dragged me out to tent camp twice.  It's just not my thing, sorry Rob.

In 2015 we thought we solved the problem by co-purchasing a travel trailer with Rob's Uncle Mike.  It's a great solution because I can sleep in a bed with air conditioning, and it has bunk beds for the kiddos.  The only reason it's not the perfect fix is we can't pull it with our minivan.  We tossed around the idea of trading the van in for a vehicle big enough to pull the camper and fit two car seats, but anything that big would be difficult for me to drive every day.  Let's be honest, I've crashed the van into the garage door twice.  No way could I park something bigger than that!

Can you see where I'm going with this?  We finally pulled the trigger and bought a new (to us) RV.  Yup, the Schneiders are now RV'ers.  But don't worry about the travel trailer, Uncle Mike and Aunt Donna will make sure it has many more adventures!

Here she is!  The Four Winds.  And she's parked at the Hendrickson property, Lakeview Farm.  Could the sky be any blue-er?

Now for the details of the camp out.  We were there, along with Jenni's family, and Rob's dad, Bill.  Other family dropped in for meals here and there, Aunt Karen; Aunt Cheryl, Uncle Bruce and Jayden; and the Clarks.  It was so nice to relax and catch up with family, plus the cousins all got to play together.

One activity my kids loved was fishing with Allison, Sarah, and Uncle John.

Another great perk of camping at Lakeview Farm is the sunsets.  The property is perfectly situated so you can sit around the fire pit and watch the sun go down over the lake.  This isn't the best picture, but you can see how glorious it can be.

Remember how I said I wasn't a nature girl?  It's important to Rob (and me too) that the kids grow up with a healthy appreciation of the great outdoors.  And Opa (Rob's dad) is all too happy to help in this regards.  He led the kids on a few toad hunts during the trip.  So much fun for them!

Look at my little girl holding that frog! I'm so proud of her.  And toad-ally grossed out that she is touching her mouth at the same time she touches an amphibian.  Yuck!

A lot of fun was had on the campout, most of which went undocumented because I was too busy in the moment to take pictures.  Also, some of the best times were sitting down together and sharing meals (camping is all about the food after all), and it's hard to capture that feeling in a picture.   But I promise to take more in the future, with the Four Winds I'm sure there are plenty more camping trips in store for us!
